BIG TALENT LITTLE HANDS!


The King's School Annual Concert and Art Show was held last night at a packed Holy Trinity Cathedral. It was a spectacular visual and musical event featuring the many Bands from Year 5 to Year 8 and showcasing the artistic talents of the boys from self-portraits, abstract paintings to film work and animation. The evening started with a rousing performance by the school's Kapa Haka and ended with an exciting finale from the Jazz Band and special guest, Dr John Henley, Chairman of the Board, singing a sensational solo.

VISIT FROM THE KING OF TONGA


The King of Tonga, George Tupou V and Old Boy of King’s School visited the school last week. Kapa Haka Leader Tepaki Hui spoke to him in Maori and Tongan student, Faleola Faingataa, dressed in the traditional tupenu also welcomed His Majesty in his native tongue. The king spoke fondly of his time at King’s and then toured the school with the Headmaster whilst reminiscing old school days with his former school mates, Wayne Brewer and Alan Hawley.

OPENING OF SPORTSDOME!

NZ basketball legend, Dillon Boucher, The Bishop of Auckland, The Rev. John Paterson, Chairman of the Board, Dr John Henley and other distinguished guests joined the whole school in celebrating the official opening of the Sportsdome. After the formal blessing by the Bishop and a rousing performance by the Kapa Haka, the real action of the day began on the basketball court with a match between the Headmaster's boys' team v. the Staff, and umpired by Dillon Boucher. A close result but the Staff came home. The real winner of the day was this magnificent new building - the Sportsdome.
TOP SCIENTISTS AT KING'S!

13 King's boys competed against some 20 schools and were rewarded with top places at the recent NIWA Auckland Science & Technology Fair. Asheer Ahmad, James Kenrick, Sebastian Gould and Scott Bevin all gained 1st prize in their various categories and Anand Rama was also awarded a special prize.

OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALLIST AND KING'S OLD BOY, TOM ASHLEY COMES TO KING'S!

Old Boy Tom Ashley came to school on Friday to talk to the boys about his incredible journey in winning a Gold Medal in windsurfing at the Beijing Olympic Games. Not only did he inspire the boys with his stories of goal setting whilst still at King's, but also brought the medal in for all to see.
